Visit Ocean Rowing Team Row2Recovery

Row2Recovery raised over £700 at The Start Enclosure during Henley Royal Regatta, we wish the team the best of luck for the Atlantic Row in November this year. To follow the crew visit the Row2Recovery website.

Row2Recovery (R2R) is a charitable campaign which is aiming to raise £1m for wounded troops and their families in the run-up to the London Olympic and Paralympic Games. As part of the fund raising campaign there will be wounded troops rowing the Atlantic in early 2012.

Three Army Friends - One Exceptional Mission

A Unique, Inspiring Story

Row2Recovery is the brainchild of three former British Army commanders who went through military training together before going on to see extensive combat in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Ed Janvrin, Alex Mackenzie and Tony Harris witnessed friends and comrades sustain life-changing injuries, while Tony lost his own left leg when an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) detonated under his vehicle in May 2009.

All three men were profoundly moved by their experiences and feel compelled to help the fallen. From this desire to help, Row2Recovery was born.

Beyond Injury, Achieving The Extraordinary

Row2Recovery will shine a spotlight on injured British troops as they adjust to new physical and emotional challenges. It hopes to change attitudes towards disability and inspire other people with life-altering injuries to realise their potential.

In June, Tony Harris will lead a group of injured troops and GB Olympic athletes as they rack up one million miles on a rowing machine over three days in central London.

At the end of 2011, ex-captains Ed Janvrin and Alex Mackenzie will team up with two injured servicemen to embark on an epic 3,000 mile voyage across the Atlantic Ocean in a rowing boat.

Why This Matters

Row2Recovery is a campaign aimed at breaking down misconceptions about what life is like for an injured solider and their family. It will champion the extraordinary achievements of people with disabilities, and emphasise that men and women returning from combat zones need public support, not sympathy.

Money raised by Row2Recovery will be distributed between three key charities working to improve the lives of British troops and their families: Help for Heroes, the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA) and ABF – The Soldiers’ Charity.
